Retainers

Finally the braces are gone! No more appointments! No more rubber bands! You’re finished right?

Well, not quite. The final step of the orthodontic process is retention. Your retainers are designed to hold your teeth in their corrected position until your bones and gums adapt to the change. You must wear retainers exactly as you have been instructed; otherwise, your teeth may move. The retention process does take time, so be patient!vivera 2vivera 3

Our office uses retainers that are made here at Hatheway Orthodontics by our own lab, which can be ready for you within a day. We also provide Vivera retainers, fabricated by Invisalign.  Vivera retainers were clearly created to fit into your busy lifestyle.  If you are eligible to become part of the Vivera Retainer program, you will receive a total of 5 retainers, one from our lab and 4 from the Vivera program, 3 of which will be delivered right to your door.   They lock in your beautiful smile invisibly, whether you’re in the class room or board room-allowing you to be confident and comfortable wearing them at any time, day or night.  You’ll be provided the added convenience of receiving fresh, clear retainers every three months for an entire year.  They have superior strength, lab tests show that it is more than 30% stronger than the leading clear retainer materials which keeps the teeth in their desired position.  bondedlower

Care and cleaning of your retainers:  The best way to ensure your retainers stay looking their best is with Polident Foaming Cleanser.  This product can be purchased at your local pharmacy or Walmart.  Simply pump some of the cleanser onto your retainer, let it set for 5-10 minutes, brush with a soft toothbrush and rinse.  You may also choose to use your toothbrush with mild dish soap or children’s toothpaste.

If your retainer becomes lost or broken it is important to let us know so that we can repair it or provide you with a new one.  Remember to keep your retainer in its case when it isn’t in your mouth and in a safe location away from heat and your family pets.
